LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Translation by Peggy Edwards: peggyedwards4@yahoo.com

PARA TODOS celebrates its twelfth anniversary in October and has quite a story to tell. A story full of ups and downs, some extreme, but our profound desire to offer a quality- information service triumphs; inspired by the truth; with the hope of exalting the multiple contributions that daily, Latinos continue to bring to this generous land.

Almost in its totality, the information, interviews, photos within each edition, are exclusive, dedicated to our valuable readers. Even our Horoscope is carefully created for us by Laurie A. Baum, a knowledgeable astrologist, who has already published four books and is known worldwide for the quality of her work. We are also served by the professionalism of Luis Arritola who usually covers culture and politics. Peggy Edwards continues to support us taking responsibility for the English edition offered on our web page paratodos.com. And we have other contributors for whom we are deeply appreciative. Most of our magazine covers are exclusive photos taken by Frances Bertrand, my son, who grew up with the magazine and has been contributing since he was 9, by asking his schoolmates to contribute drawings for a contest offered to our youngest readers. Our first prizes came from Chuck E.Cheese’s, who donated many coupons, then other prizes were offered.

In a very convoluted world with contradicting messages and spins, the majority of the communications media do not have the liberty to choose their message, they can’t remain loyal to their truth; they need the monetary support they get from their job and so they must do what is asked of them, although it may be far from the honest truth. Throughout history this has all too often been the case. We see it in all the media, even famous painter such as Goya, who included difficult to recognize personages in his paintings. This was his only means of expressing his discontent with the injustices of the era and his frustration of not being able to paint openly that which was the truth, because he would lose his sustenance.

It is very valuable to know serious independent fountains of information, with uncensored truthful messages. The radio station FM 90.7 (in Spanish for an hour in the morning, from Monday thru Thursday,) and television Link TV (www.linktv.org) in English, transmit very informative and interesting programs, with through which we have the opportunity of judging for ourselves, to be able to freely choose regarding many of our daily decisions. I admire Amy Goodman’s bravery and knowledge regarding subjects such as democracy, her message is based on facts and good judgment, she is on the air every morning on FM 90.7. For more information visit: www.democracynow.org.

Now you know why I respect some private media so much and I invite you to attend the first Congress of Newspaper Reporters in Orange County, which Sergio Velázquez of Miniondas and Farandulas will host in October 9th. There are many other media in addition to these, but you must know how to identify them in order to nourish yourself with their information and share your opinions with the younger generation so that they may live in a world with moral values where embracing the truth is the goal of communication.

PARA TODOS started its trajectory in 1995 with no more objective than uniting the Latinos of South Orange County with positive information and to support pride in our common roots. PARA TODOS continued relentlessly its path, now covering all of Orange County and many cities of Los Angeles, thanks to the faith and constancy of the innumerable business people who have believed in PARA TODOS and in us, making this an unreal story of a united and powerful family.

Para Todos es la revista líder en español del Sur de California que efectivamente asiste a negocios y agencias a promover sus servicios al consumidor más codiciado del país.
