Editorial Translated by Peggy Edwards/ By Silvia Ichar
While nature continues to surprise us with its temperamental force destroying all that is in its path; the war continues devouring young people without pity; politicians discussing hot topics of immigration, and the menace of aviary flu, Latinos march on!
Dedicated to their families and businesses, small or big, making billions of dollars for the country, employing more people than any American business and multiplying its influence and culture at an uncontrollable pace. And if 5 de Mayo commemorates the victory at Puebla, here it is celebrated much more than in Mexico and finds the opportunity for big celebrations, even more elaborate dinners, fairs, and more mariachis and country music.
Mother’s Day follows, which has a very profound connotation in each one of us. There will be many demonstrations of gratitude and affection that day, and business uncontrollably, will advertise objects, clothes and cosmetics trying to convince us that this is the only way of showing gratitude and acknowledgment. The city of Santa Ana will offer a very special event at the stadium, Saturday, May 13. PARA TODOS will participate and hopes to see you there. (p. 37)
May God bless all the women of the world. They are the family’s axle, they have the innate ability to watch out for everyone, from choosing the healthiest foods; help those who don’t feel well; take care of children responsibilities and smile at their partner when he comes home tense from his day at work. And, in many cases, they also add to their long list of activities and responsibilities, work outside the home, helping to support their homes.
The greatest number of small businesses in this country belongs to Latinas. Logically their role in the heart of the family has changed drastically and no wonder their partners feel a bit affected, not exactly knowing what to do about it, but conscious of the economic benefit they offer. That’s why it is imperative that there be understanding and compromise within the family in order to share chores and regain the harmony which reigned when she didn’t work outside the home.
This country offers education and resources to be successful in your life and business, as does the Hispanic Chamber in Santa Ana (p.20-24), and other organizations like the LBWA (p.28), gives you the opportunity for a free education, with which the family can now make more intelligent decisions and bring home more money. Besides you will teach your children to do the same with your example.
Forward women! Because when we get an idea to do something, nobody can stop us! Yes, you should go on watching out for your family, but also dedicate time to educate yourself and be more competitive in a world that relentlessly marches forward.
Enjoy the celebrations of the 5 de Mayo in San Clemente (p.38), and in Santa Ana, Mother’s Day. May God bless and guide all women so that they may continue being the strength that keeps all their families cared for and taken care of. |
